Large Government-run Project
We are performing research to create new industries and secure world-class technological prowess in the strategic technology fields by the early 2010s through focused development of our unique, powerful technologies.

Research Division for Commercialization at Ulsan
  - Research Center for Commercialization of New Chemical Technology at Ulsan

The center will lead green & sustainable growth of Ulsan's petrochemical industries and fine chemical industries by developing the production technologies of efficient petrochemical processes, new fusion materials, advanced fine chemicals, and green energy materials.

  • Development of innovative field-customized technologies through technology demand assessments and technological cooperation
  • R&D on technologies to resolve bottlenecks experienced by companies and promotion of commercialization of technologies held by KRICT

  - Research Center for Commercialization of Chemical Biotechnology at Ulsan (RCCCB at Ulsan)

RCCCB at Ulsan will take a leading role to realize the Green Growth Society by developing the technologies for the production of bioplastics, biofuels, and bio-fine-chemicals from plant resources called biomass. Among the bioplastics are PLA, PHA and PTT, and it is possible to replace the conventional petroleum-based plastics with such bioplastics by improving their mechanical and thermal properties further. Environmental friendly biofuels such as bioethanol, biobutanol, and biodisel also have a good opportunity to replace the conventional liquid fuels by improving the technology for the production of even better biofuels. Various bio-fine-chemicals can be produced and commercialized by developing the technologies for using small useful molecules such as xylan from biomass.

The Center for Biological Modulators

The center is making efforts to develop new drug candidates that can treat incurable diseases, and to develop new technologies in the new drug field to secure the competitiveness of the pharmaceutical-industry, which make a key industry of the 21st century.

  • Development of drugs for ischemic diseases and geriatric diseases, including obesity, diabetes, liver cirrhosis, arthritis, osteoporosis, and asthma, using cutting-edge new drug development technologies
  • Establishment of a core technology platform for new drug development

Information Display R&D Center

The center is making strenuous efforts to achieve the highest level of competitiveness in display technology by developing source technologies for futuristic information displays and by creating new industries.

  • Efforts to make Korea No. 1 in next-generation flat panel display technologies
  • Establishment of a foundation to develop displays with new functions and achieve first-mover advantage in the display market by securing basic and core technologies that are essential to developing next-generation ultra-lightweight and ultra-thin displays with new functions
  • Expansion of a new market with a new paradigm by using displays with new functions and creation of jobs

Center of Fundamental Technology on Chemical Materials

The center is providing comprehensive support for the fundamental technology development project for chemical materials that is supported by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, with the aim of "realizing a strong chemical materials nation by 2015."

  • Identification of areas of support for the project to develop fundamental technologies on chemical materials
  • Holding of workshops on chemical materials
  • Construction and supply of chemical material information by CMIB (Chemical Materials Information Bank) databases
